A double exchange this morning between Guido Bertolaso and Attilio Fontana seems to condemn the closure of the emergency room of the Menaggi hospital. Let’s go in order.
Welfare councilor Guido Bertolaso, during an event at Palazzo Lombardia, today returned to talking about the Menaggio hospital of which last Friday he announced the closure of the emergency room and the transformation into a facility for chronic patients, sparking revolt in the area .
No direct mention of the practical question but once again Bertolaso has placed his fate in the hands of president Attilio Fontana. And the latter not only confirmed it but ruled out any possibility of revocation. In fact, therefore, Bertolaso’s position on Me Aggio seems to be supported in all respects also by the president of the Lombardy Region.
“These are my extra times in the Lombardy Region, then that’s it. I am in the hands of President Fontana – underlined Bertolaso – If there is any situation that can create problems he can withdraw my delegation, but there are still things I would like to do before leaving this territory”.
The councilor wanted to specify that he is “a servant of the State, I have always worked for my country and I am proud to have done so. I retired 12 years ago and I’m still here… I’m a doctor, first of all respecting the oath I took counts. I have the task of protecting the health of my citizens.”
Present at the same event (the day of the XXIII edition of Salute Direzione Nord, the Fondazione Stelline event and organized by Inrete – Institutional Relations and Communication, hosted at Belvedere 39° of Palazzo Lombardia in Milan) Fontana effectively reconfirmed Bertolaso and therefore also his exit on Menaggio: “Bertolaso away? We’ll talk about it in four years” said Fontana.
PD regional councilor Angelo Orsenigo immediately went on the attack. “Fontana finally breaks the silence on the chilling story of the Menaggio Hospital. He doesn’t do it to reassure citizens and to take a step back. He does it to confirm his trust in Bertolaso and lock him up for another four years. It is clear that in this way Fontana is also confirming the death sentence pronounced against the hospital in the province of Como” declares the regional councilor of the Democratic Party.
“It is clear that Fontana does not intend to take a step back on the issue of Erba-Renaldi, condemned to become a facility for chronic patients and without an emergency room – continues the councilor – At Palazzo Lombardia, in short, we move forward. He remains Bertolaso, he cuts out a hospital. This is done regardless of the 14 thousand signatures collected, regardless of the position of Asst Lariana itself, regardless of the requests of the territory, all at the expense of the citizens and communities of Lake Como, left without certainties. We will make the voice of the territory heard in the Regional Council and in the streets: in the face of an unjust and wrong decision in every respect, opposition is a duty”.
