The victim of the fatal accident in Torretta Granitola was a woman from Mazara.
The accident occurred yesterday, Saturday 22 June on the SP that connects Campobello di Mazara to the hamlet of Torretta Granitola. The fatal accident involved a lorry and a bee, resulting in the death of a woman 59 years old, Francesca Zaccaria, originally from Mazara del Vallo e serious injuries to the driver of the apecar, Giuseppe Aliseo, 66 years old, also from Mazara del Vallo.
The accident occurred yesterday afternoon on the provincial road that runs along Viale Giuseppe Re Raineri, a frequently busy road, especially during the summer season due toaccess to popular beach areas such as Torretta Granitola and Tre Fontane. Francesca Zaccaria and her partner were traveling in the Apecar when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle performed a sudden manoeuvre, violently impacting a lorry.
The violent collision caused extreme damage to both vehicles and required the intervention of firefighters to extract those involved from the twisted sheets of metal. The 118 emergency service, with the help of the air ambulance, transported Mr Aliseo to the Palermo Civic Hospital in desperate conditions, while for Francesca Zaccaria all help was unfortunately in vain.
The firefighters intervened on site to manage the rescue operations and the carabinieri from the Campobello di Mazara station, together with the municipal police officers, to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and ascertain responsibilities.
