A few months before her sixtieth birthday, Monica Bellucci takes stock of her life and confesses in an interview given to the well-known national newspaper. The actress, a world-famous performer, with Hollywood blockbusters such as The Matrix and Bram Stoker’s Dracula to her creditshe let herself go to unexpected confidences and revelations, like the one about her alternative career if her film career didn’t work out. And no, fashion has nothing to do with it.

Born in Città di Castello in 1964, after graduating from high school she began her career as a model, also to pay for her studies at the Faculty of Law which she however abandoned shortly after to continue working full time in fashion. Towards the end of the 1980s she was one of the most famous faces in the fashion industry, but already at the beginning of the 1990s she began to devote herself more to acting, debuting in Vita coi figli by Dino Risi.

The first leading role dates back to 1991 with La riffa, followed by Ostinato destino. However, great fame came thanks to Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 film, in which she played one of Dracula’s three wives. This later allows her to take part in major Hollywood productions such as the two Matrix sequels, The Passion of the Christ by Mel Gibson and the Brothers Grimm and The Witch by Terry Gilliam, just to name a few.

Monica Bellucci confesses with an open heart: she could have done this job

Reached by Repubblica in New York, engaged in the presentation of the docufilm Maria Callas – Letters and memories, Monica spoke about the difficulty in saying goodbye to the character Callas: “He preserved a form of innocence regarding the lives of men. Children are very dear to me. If I hadn’t done this job, after law school I would have dealt with children’s problems” Bellucci revealed it by surprise.

But the actress also talked about her family, which is mostly made up of women, and the teachings received from grandmothers Ada and Giuseppina: “They gave me love through words, comfort, food. Now that I am a mother, they live in me. They help me bear the passing of time: in them I have never seen old women but young souls. They passed on their experience with an essential ingredient: humor. They were made of light, trauma, divinatory art and intelligence” wanted to highlight the artist who we will soon see again in the sequel to the cult film Beetlejuice, directed by his new partner Tim Burton.
