Taranto, drug dealing in Città Vecchia and Tamburi, one arrest

The State Police arrested a 23-year-old young man, resident in Taranto, after an in-depth investigation which led to the discovery of a drug dealing activity in the ancient village and in the Tamburi district.

During the checks, the Hawks of the Flying Squad spotted the suspect while he was riding a scooter along Via Garibaldi towards Piazza Fontana. In an attempt to escape, the young man threw a package, later recovered by investigators, and tried to disappear.

After a prolonged chase, the young man lost control of the vehicle and was stopped by the police. The personal, home and vehicle searches led to the seizure of approximately 8,500 euros in cash, a package containing approximately 11 grams of cocaine, the key to an electric scooter and two smartphones. In addition, approximately 100 grams of hashish were found in the freezer at the young man’s home, as well as an additional piece of hashish weighing approximately 52 grams.

In the courtyard of his home, the officers located an electric scooter that could be started with the key found in the young man’s purse. Under the scooter’s seat, six packages of cocaine were discovered, totaling approximately 370 grams.

The young man was arrested and taken to the Taranto prison. The seized material was seized. Until a final sentence is reached, the presumption of innocence applies to the suspect.
