Alexandria, July 1, 2024 – Alessandro Rolando, city secretary of the League of Alessandria, harshly criticizes the new council of mayor Giorgio Abonante, calling it an “old-style palace maneuver” and accusing the mayor of paying “electoral bills” to Giovanni Barosini and of favoring the 5 Star Movement .

An Apparent Change

According to Rolando, the new council of the municipality of Alessandria does not represent a real revolution to face the challenges of the future, but rather a distribution of tasks according to the Cencelli manual. “Everyone is passionately involved, from Barosini to the 5 Stars, political subjects who only two years ago attacked each other daily in the press, and who now should work, side by side, for the future of our community,” says Rolando. He sees this move as an attempt by Mayor Abonante to simulate a ‘change of pace’ after two years of inactivity, but which in reality is limited to paying some political bills.

Criticisms of Abonante Management

Rolando continues by harshly criticizing the actions of Mayor Abonante and his administration over the last two years. Among the criticisms, he highlights the creation of a new social center presented as a municipal meeting center and the creation of cycle lanes defined as chaotic and poorly made. The situation of AMAG, the municipality’s multi-service company, is particularly worrying for Rolando. He accuses the administration of abandoning innovative projects such as smart cities and energy communities, handing over the management of the company to external consultants. “There is talk of new private partners destined to join a group that until now had completely public participation, and there is great concern among the staff,” he adds.

Concerns for the Future

Rolando’s worries don’t stop there. He warns that all citizens should be concerned about the risk of increased costs of waste collection and water, a primary good and everyone’s right. “The risk of a surge in waste collection and water costs is evident,” Rolando concludes in his note.
