The best tub ice creams available in Italian supermarkets have been revealed: here is the ranking drawn up by Gambero Rosso

The desire for ice-cream is often a constant for Italians, a people who eat a lot of it not only in the summer, but also in the rest of the seasons. A good slice of the market concerns packaged ice cream: according to a survey by AstraRicerche, consumption has increased over the last few years and is set to rise between now and 2027.

The choice to consume packaged ice cream, especially at home, is dictated by a series of factors, such as the lower price, conservation and ease of finding useful information on ingredients and nutritional values. Among the packaged ice creams preferred by Italians are those in tray: Gambero Rosso has drawn up a ranking that lists the best ones on supermarket shelves.

The ranking is based on the tasting of the panel of judges composed of the journalist Mara Nocilla, the ice cream maker Stefano Ferrara, the pastry chef and teacher Monia Achille, the taster and writer Elvan Uysal and Indra Galbo, editor and head of the panel of the Guida Oli d’Italia.

In first place in the ranking dedicated to the best tub ice creams available in large-scale distribution we find Grom Chocolate: according to the Gambero Rosso judges, it is appreciated for its immediacy and on the palate it is creamy, persistent and not excessively sweet.

Behind the product of the company of Federico Grom and Guido Martinetti who launched the Lec line, the ice cream of Charles Leclerc, we find the Magnum Classic Of Algae: second place in the ranking for the re-proposal of the classic Magnum stick, characterised by a generous and crunchy topping of milk ice cream that covers the surface of the jar and acts as an “antechamber” to the actual ice cream.

Position number three the Chocolate Jar Of Sammontana which has a full-bodied and melting chocolate flavour. In fourth place, instead, we find Ben & Jerry’s Cookie Dough: this is an ice cream with the flavour of the famous chocolate chip cookies made by the famous American brand.

Another star-spangled company in fifth place in the ranking dedicated to the best tub ice creams available in Italian supermarkets: Haagen-Dazs Vanilla which stands out on the palate for a sweetness reminiscent of sugared almonds.

Ice cream comes in sixth place Ferrero Nutella which interprets the most famous hazelnut cream in the world in a new way: the jar features a topping that, when melted a little, evokes the sensation of hazelnut. It follows, in seventh position, the Carte d’Or Dark Chocolate by Algida, which has chosen entirely compostable packaging, a clear sign of sensitivity towards the environment.

The Carte d’Or highlights a typical note of liqueur chocolates on the nose, while it is appreciated for the good quality of the chocolate on the palate. Closing the Gambero Rosso ranking dedicated to the best tub ice creams available in Italian supermarkets is the Ringo by Barilla, a company that wanted to give new life to the famous black and white biscuits loved by adults and children.
