MILAN (ITALPRESS) – Edison announces the construction, through its subsidiary Edison Rinnovabili, of seven new photovoltaic plants in Piedmont, in the provinces of Alessandria and Turin, for a total capacity of 45 MW. Thanks to the entry into service of these plants, Edison – an integrated operator from development to construction, management and maintenance – confirms its growth path in the development and construction of new renewable capacity, which plans to invest 5 billion euros between 2023 and 2030, to increase the green installed capacity from the current 2 GW to 5 GW and thus contribute to the country’s decarbonization objectives. “We are increasing our installed photovoltaic capacity in a region that is particularly strategic for us, where we are also present with our 46 hydroelectric plants with which we contribute to the sustainable growth of the territory and the creation of value for its community”, says Marco Stangalino, Executive Vice President Power Asset of Edison.

“With the construction of new solar plants in the provinces of Turin and Alessandria, we are taking a step forward in the deployment of new renewable energy in order to reach 40% of green production in our production mix by 2030”. In detail, four of the seven new plants built have entered into operation in recent months; three instead, whose work was completed in 2023, are awaiting connection to the national electricity grid, which should occur by the end of 2024. In addition to these, there are two other photovoltaic plants, already previously in Edison’s portfolio, in the province of Alessandria and in operation since 2011. The nine plants have a production capacity of 70 GWh per year, capable of meeting the energy needs of 26 thousand families and avoiding the emission of over 30 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. In line with its sustainability policy, Edison also announces that it has started a collaboration with the municipalities surrounding the plants for the implementation of a series of projects such as the redevelopment of green areas, the planting of trees, the installation of e-bike charging points, road signs, street furniture and energy efficiency activities for lighting fixtures. “With the delivery of this additional 45 MW in Piedmont, Edison confirms its commitment to achieving the objectives indicated in the strategic plan to 2030, which includes investments of 10 billion euros over the decade, 85% of which in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) of the United Nations – reads a note -. At the end of the plan, the portfolio of activities will see renewable electricity generation represent over 45% of the group’s profitability, services to industrial and domestic customers and the public administration will contribute approximately a quarter, gas and thermoelectric production will represent 30%”. – Photo Edison press office – (ITALPRESS). sat/com 02-Jul-24 09:32 .
