Between the fear of new floods of the Marmore torrent and the mud to be shoveled, Cervinia is today committed to returning to normality as soon as possible. Dozens of people (including many volunteers) have been active since dawn to clean up the numerous buildings invaded by mud. At least thirty businesses, including bars, restaurants and shops, in the central street have suffered serious damage.
In some apartment buildings, flooded basements have caused the electricity supply to stop, as the meters are located there. To overcome the problem, generators were activated. Yesterday In the evening the level of the Marmore rose again to alert levels, causing the population to experience moments of fear before the situation resolved itself. Today some helicopter overflights by technicians are planned to assess the state of the stream, especially in the high altitude areas.
Breuil-Cervinia towards a return to normality: accessible roads, various activities and ski lifts in operation
The day after the wave of bad weather, Breuil-Cervinia gets up and looks to the future. It will take a few more days before things return to complete normality, in the meantime several public and private activities are starting up again in the area. Accommodation facilities and shops not damaged by water and debris are reopening, Today (Monday) ski lifts are in regular operation in the area. In Breuil-Cervinia, the Breuil-Cervinia – Cime Bianche – Plateau Rosa line is open, as is the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing. The international connection is accessible only to pedestrians, while summer skiing – entirely on Swiss territory – will remain closed for the entire day. The Lago Lod chairlift in Chamois, a station that is part of the Cervino Ski Paradise area, is also in regular operation. Many hiking itineraries are accessible, the highest golf course in Italy is also partly open, and the Torgnon Summer Park season will begin on July 6. Valtournenche has no longer been isolated since yesterday morning (Sunday). The debris from the landslide that fell during the night between Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June was immediately removed and traffic was restored in both directions yesterday. The road is clean, perfectly passable and has no critical issues.. In the central streets of Breuil-Cervinia this morning at 7am the restoration work resumed, to make the town shine again, now close to entering the heart of the summer season. The entire community of the famous Aosta Valley resort has immediately shown itself united and has been actively collaborating since yesterday; there are also several guests on site who have given their availability to help a mountain population that is already ready to welcome tourists with the usual warmth, looking optimistically to the next two months.
