health, sustainability and new applications”

What will our future be like thanks to biotechnology?

It will be discussed on Wednesday 26 June (2pm-6pm, Aula Magna Azzone, Polo Vallisneri, Padua) on the occasion of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the first degree course in Biotechnology of the University of Padua as part of the conference 25 years of Biotech in Padua. First steps, successes, visions of the future.

The Course, created with the aim of training professionals capable of speaking a multidisciplinary language and generating new applications, which over time have become fundamental to our lives, has graduated over 4000 biotechnologists in Padua to date.

Biotechnologies are transversal disciplines by nature, which at the University of Padua involve eight departments: Agronomy, animals, food, natural resources and environment, Biology, Comparative biomedicine and nutrition, Molecular medicine, Animal medicine, production and health, Chemical sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Meeting, open to the public upon registration (here) and organized by the departments involved and by the Alumni Association of the University of Padua, after the institutional greetings, sees the interventions of Professor Gerolamo Lanfranchi, honorary of Genetics, and Professor Marta Giacomello, first graduate in biotechnology in Padua, who will retrace the birth and the crucial passages of a moment – the end of the nineties – characterized by great enthusiasm and excitement for biotechnology.

This will be followed by the testimonies of former students Francesco Carpitella (GSK Vaccines), Odra Pinato (Stevanato Group), Giorgio Sordato (Officinae Bio) and Graziano Martello (Department of Biology), now researchers and entrepreneurs, who will talk about their paths and goals.

But above all we will talk about the future.

In the round table that closes the event, in fact, biotechnologists from the academic, entrepreneurial and industrial world will dialogue together, trying to outline the development and impact of biotechnology in the various application fields in the years to come.

Silver wedding, therefore, but with an eye to the next 25 years, to reflect today on the role that these disciplines and the artificial intelligence applied to them will have in the most important challenges of tomorrow: culture, health, sustainability.
