“II7BR: Brindisi Radio Amateurs Celebrate the G7 with Global Connections”

“>

In the days in which our territory hosted the “Greats of the Earth”, the G7, the Radio Amateurs belonging to the ARI Section of Brindisi wanted to commemorate this exceptional, and perhaps unique, event which involved the entire city and the province.

MIMIT, for the occasion and upon our specific request, assigned the “special” international call sign II7BR to the Radio Amateurs of ARI Brindisi, which easily identifies our city.

Thanks to the particularity of the international callsign, over 1300 bilateral radio connections were made with as many radio amateurs spread around the world. In fact, the map shows the radio stations connected during the activities. We range from the “closest” ones, i.e. the Italian and European ones, up to the furthest ones: the United States, South America and Oceania!

The radio amateurs of ARI Brindisi transmitted on the short wave frequency portions assigned to them, in voice, radiotelegraphy but also in digital technology.

In memory of the radio connection, a special postcard called “QSL” will be sent to all connected radio amateurs which shows the image of our Castello Svevo Aragonese and the references of the radio connection.

Unfortunately we would have liked to include the logo of our city in our postcards but, despite having requested free patronage from the Municipality of Brindisi, no response was received in this regard…

ARI Brindisi with its members has been present in Brindisi for over 50 years, despite not having for some years a registered office where they can meet both to carry out training courses for those who want to get closer to radio and to host a permanent exhibition of equipment Radios that have marked the history of radio broadcasting.

ARI Brindisi, with its members, is very active both with the usual radio broadcasting activities and in alternative emergency communications.
