The Mondialpol headquarters attacked in Sassari and the bodywork of a police car was hit

And in these hours the hunt is on for the commando who managed to burgle the vault of the security company Mondialpol. According to initial information, after having attacked the Caniga headquarters of Mondialpol on the outskirts of Sassari, the bandits fled in direction Cagliari along the State Road 131. At this time the police and investigators are examining the videos that appeared on social media of people who filmed the assault as well as organizing roadblocks and searches based on the reconstruction of possible escape routes taken by the commando members.

According to available information, the bandits managed to take over the loot which however has not yet been quantified (we are talking about figures around 4-5 million euros). In particular, it seems that the money of the pensions (as reported by Nuova Sardegna) to be paid in the next few days in the post offices in the area. “In the budget – explains a note from Mondialpol – there are no injuries, ours security systems overall they withstood the violence of the attack and the criminals managed to take over only part of the cash present on site, and not the contents of the vault – the strongroom, which constitutes the heart of the building –, it was not conqueredcontrary to what some media reported. Our procedures, refined over nearly a hundred years of history, played a fundamental role in containing the damage, and the training our staff who every year participates in thousands of hours of training including compulsory and additional courses”.

The criminals, at least ten, armed with Kalashnikovs and dressed in camouflage and bulletproof vestswent into action around 8.30 pm: they pulled an excavator up to the wall surrounding the headquarters Mondialpol di Caniga, and using the length of the arm of the mechanical vehicle they broke through the wall of the building. At the same time, other bandits climbed over the fence with a ladder and entered the premises from where they started took several bags of moneyalways taken out with the bucket of the mechanical vehicle and loaded onto a White Fiat Ducato vanwith whom they then fled towards Cagliari. Not before having shot at the security guards to intimidate them: one of them who was in the sentry box was saved thanks to the bulletproof glass.

The assault was also filmed live on social media. In fact, from a nearby building there is someone who broadcast for about ten minutes social direct the images of what was happening outside the security institute, i noises of gunshotsthe blocked state road, the smoke from the vehicles given to the flames in several places, the arrival of police cars. Another video shows the excavator introduced by the bandits and used to load bags with money taken from the vault. A couple in a car instead filmed one of the armed bandits with his face covered in one phase of the escape. In another videoalso shot from a nearby building, we see a bandit dressed in black operating the excavator while, with gunshots in the background, he breaks through the wall of the building, urged on by the screams of his accomplices who are giving him directions.

“What happened last night in Sassari is of unprecedented severity. The colleagues are in shock, but fortunately they are well. The windshield of the company car withstood the Kalashnikov shots that the bandits fired at them, only by some miracle he didn’t escape died“. This is stated in a note by Eros Retanda, provincial general secretary of Sassari of New Carabinieri Union (NSC). “This very serious episode – he continues – highlights how a single patrol cannot cope with such events and how it is essential to strengthen territorial control, especially in a land where criminal escalation does not retreat. Already in the month of January – says Retanda – we sent a note to the General Command illustrating the situation Sassari mobile radio operations unit, short of staff, with an average age of almost 48 years and working conditions that are exhausting from a psychophysical point of view. We need an immediate response from the Executive so that they are invested resources to increase human capital and strengthen those departments, such as that of Sassari, which necessarily need strengthening because they lack personnel. We are relieved to know that none of the security guards or colleagues from the force have suffered any consequences. Professionalism and luck – he concludes – they averted the worst, but on the street you can’t rely only on luck”.
