PALERMO (ITALPRESS) – The Sicilian Jazz Orchestra will be the protagonist at the Sicilia Jazz Festival 2024 with the big names on the international scene.
Among the guests international stars such as Arturo Sandoval, Arisa, Ron Carter, Noemi, Veronica Swift, Philip Lassiter, Cory Henry, Take 6. Ample space also at the Conservatories present again this year with various performances, the jazz departments of the ‘Alessandro Scarlattì di Palermo, ‘Arcangelo Corellì of Messina, ‘Antonio Scontrinò of Trapani, ‘Arturo Toscaninì of Ribera and the Higher Institute of Music Studies ‘Vincenzo Bellinì of Catania, protagonists with the jazz classes and their orchestras at the Ridotto dello Spasimo, at the Steri and at the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia.
‘Dear Italian fans and all those within easy reach of Italy, on 25 June 2024 I will make a stopover of just one day in the beautiful city of Palermo to play at the Teatro di Verdura. With me on stage there will be the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra, an esteemed Italian big band whose history dates back to the early 70s, when it was founded by Ignazio Garsia as the Brass Group Big Band’ with these words, Ron Carter, living monument of history of jazz, announces its presence at the Sicilia Jazz Festival, which will feature the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra – The Brass Group, and which for the fourth edition will feature the presence of international stars and Grammy Awards.
From 23 June to 7 July, for the fourth consecutive year after the large numbers of the previous editions, several concerts will be held, a total of 72 of which 8 productions with the OJS big band, staged in some of the most fascinating sites in the historic centre. of Palermo and at the Verdura Theater of Villa Castelnuovo (18th century).
As peculiarities of the festival, there will be world premieres of specially commissioned unreleased productions, many exclusive concerts with internationally renowned soloists and the excellence of the Sicilian conservatories made up of other big bands and many of our young musicians. There will be a succession of shows between big names, musicians not only from Sicily, masters and young talents from the conservatories of our island.
The Festival, promoted by the Sicilian Region – Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, whose artistic and technical consultancy has been entrusted to The Brass Group Foundation, the operational arm of the Region, established by law, 1 February 2006, n. 5, will open its doors in June but the ticket office presales are already online. The initiative is the result of collaboration between the Regional Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, the Municipality of Palermo, the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra Foundation – The Brass Group and the Music Conservatories of the regional territory, and has as a further objective the involvement and structural synergy between regional educational institutions, local musicians and local workers.
The regional councilor for Tourism, Sport and Entertainment, Elvira Amata, intervenes on the initiative: ‘The strong musical emotions that for the fourth consecutive year the Sicilia Jazz Festival will offer to the general public and the vast audience of tourists will soon return thanks to the rich and valuable artistic calendar and the strongly consolidated synergy between the various institutions involved in the organization of the event.
Once again and with ever-increasing enthusiasm we will witness concerts and shows of the highest artistic level with internationally renowned protagonists. A confirmation of the commitment strongly desired by the regional Government and the Department that I represent to consolidate and strengthen the sensational successes already recorded in previous editions, which make the Festival – we can proudly say – a flagship event in the Calendar of events of this Department .
I really want to wish the best success of the Festival while expressing, at the same time, to ‘The Brass Group’ Foundation my deepest satisfaction for the constant commitment, the always profuse collaboration and for the artistic choices that attest to the event as an international excellence of the our musical and tourist offer in full coherence with the mission and skills of the Department.
A program, that of the Sicilia Jazz Festival 2024, rich and varied with continuous concert activities and to be experienced, because music is synonymous with life, social and cultural growth and aggregation for possible tourist and economic developments. And music certainly brings together, unites, inebriates, comforts and manages to make people discover new places, enhancing the territory and history as has already happened for the first two editions of the Sicilia Jazz Festival which, thanks to the concert activities located along the historic center of the city, gave the opportunity to make known the places and tourist characteristics of the city.
The fourth edition of the Sicilia Jazz Festival wants to give priority to the discovery of places to enhance them all in their historical and cultural fullness because music is a universal language, understood by everyone without age or gender limits, without limits of belonging and race. The billboard features such great names from the international artistic world that they will all perform with the Sicilian Jazz Orchestra such as Arturo Sandoval who inaugurates the Festival on 23 June at the Teatro di Verdura, and also Ron Carter on 25 June, Philip Lassiter on 27 June, Arisa on June 29th, Noemi on July 1st, Cori Henry on July 3rd, Veronica Swift on July 5th, Take 6, with ten Grammy Awards, close SJF 24 on July 7th.

We remember that thanks to the commitment of UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Jazz legend, Herbie Hancock, Jazz was recognized in 2011 by UNESCO as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity, for sharing the values ​​of a profoundly significant musical genre . A message of creativity and rediscovery of one’s identity that is played with JAZZ notes by many artists and unreleased musical productions that represent world exclusives.
