New cycle path and roundabout renovation: here’s how Via Firenze will change

Buildings, but also urban and traffic implications. The new residential project on via Firenze in Canegrate

Canegrate – There are big changes on the horizon for the urban layout of the south-west area of Canegrate. In fact, the new “Coordinated Planning Area” number 12 has been started with the recent council resolution for an adoption procedure.. A large uncultivated land between Via Magenta, Via Firenze and Via Bologna will host a new housing development. The planned urbanization works, however, will also modify the road system with the reconstruction of the narrow roundabout on Via Firenze (distinguished by the presence of an olive tree in the centre, which will be maintained) and the construction of new cycle/pedestrian facilities.

The project includes two lots for three residential buildings. The whole will cover an area of almost 4,000 square meters. The truly important aspect, however, concerns the works that will affect the entire Canegratese community. On Via Magenta, the existing roundabout at the intersection with Via Firenze will be downsized with the consequent modification of the sidewalk; the removal of trees is planned with the arrangement of the same sidewalk up to the intersection with Via Rovereto. A cycle/pedestrian path will be made with a raised crossing. A new public parking lot is also planned; new trees will be planted; the electrical and public lighting systems will be adapted; and, finally, all the signage will be redone. On Via Firenze, a part of the cycle/pedestrian path will be created, again with a protected crossing; here too there will be new trees and the remaking of the electrical network: the same will happen on Via Bologna.

«The planned urbanization works are part of a landscape context not characterized by significant elements, but in a context characterized by a lack of homogeneity of building typologies. However, it is planned to plant the olive tree present in the existing roundabout in the center of the new roundabout – we read in the technical report – It is also planned to plant trees in the green area near the new roundabout. As for the buildings to be built in the future, they will have an almost rectangular shape, a maximum of four habitable floors above ground, plus a basement used as a garage and accessories.».

In practice, in addition to the widening of the roundabout, where heavy vehicles currently have difficulty moving, in Apc 12 a cycle/pedestrian path will be built all around the new settlement.in a section that is halfway between the elementary school and a supermarket, with the large Gescal social housing development on the Via Bologna side.
