Pugliese Aqueduct at work to restore those discovered

Despite the heat and prohibitive temperatures, thefts in Cerignola do not stop. There is a phenomenon that is worrying the police forces in the area in this period, and that is the theft of manhole covers.

They were robbed 27 cast iron manhole covers in the space of just 72 hours, most of which are located in industrial areas. But the phenomenon, which started from the industrial area, is rapidly spreading to other city streets. There is an uncovered manhole in Via Piave, near the Church of Cristo Re, and another has been reported in Via Plebiscito.

The risk associated with such thefts is that some unsuspecting pedestrian, or worse, a child, could fall into the sewer pipes, which in some places reach up to three meters deep. The same danger also arises for motorists traveling on the road where there is an uncovered manhole, who can damage their car or put their safety at risk.

Local police officers and law enforcement officers will intensify checks in the next few hours to identify those responsible for these thefts.

Going so far as to steal manhole covers is an unspeakable human misery“, commented theSecurity Councilor Teresa Cicolellawhich invites citizens to pay attention and report city manholes that require timely closure.

Some children could fall into it and lose their lives. But can one be so reckless and criminal?“, thundered the councilor, adding: “Acquedotto Pugliese told us that thefts of this kind only occur in Cerignola”.

Another record to be proud of.
