from the past the green technique that saves rice fields and water
National recognition in the “Digital Enterprise” category for the young rice grower from Mede (PV)
Pavia among the protagonists of Coldiretti’s national Green Oscars: the young rice grower from Mede (PV) Giuseppe Zafferoni Masinari received recognition in the “Digital Enterprise” category of the innovation award in agriculture promoted by Coldiretti Giovani Impresa.
The awards – specifies Coldiretti Pavia – this year were awarded in Venice on the occasion of the Coldiretti #stocoicontadini Village, where the young creativity salon was set up with the solutions conceived by the minds of farmers under 35 in terms of product innovation, transition ecological and social sustainability. Also present at the event, together with the national President of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini and the national Youth Delegate Enrico Parisi, was also a delegation from Coldiretti Pavia led by the President Silvia Garavaglia and the Director Antonio Tessari.
The 27-year-old Giuseppe Zafferoni Masinari – explains Coldiretti Pavia – won an award in the “Digital Enterprise” category. In his rice fields in Lomellina, thanks to an ancient technique revisited in a modern key and combined with precision agriculture, Giuseppe manages to save up to 60% of water. This is – explains Coldiretti Pavia – the so-called mechanical transplant: the rice seedlings are initially grown in the nursery and then transferred to the countryside, when they reach a height of about a span. The transplanting into the paddy mud takes place using a machine developed with specialized Indian engineers. This method saves 40% water compared to traditional wet or dry planting techniques, as transplanting occurs later in the season.
