Venezia– Ivan Gardini’s sloop Naïf (1973) wins the Overall Principality of Monaco Trophy Vintage Sails in the Lagoon BNL Cup BNP Paribas Wealth Management, Aon Special Award repeating the victory obtained last year.

This edition of the regatta, promoted by the Honorary Consul of the Principality of Monaco in Venice Anna Licia Balzan, Yes is confirmed an unmissable event for the owners of the most beautiful vintage sails of the Upper Adriatic, setting a new record with 31 participating boats built between 1858 and the 2000s.

The scheduled regattas took place with optimal weather and sea conditions, calm seas and strong breezes allowed the public to admire the traditional sailing from the banks of San Marco which this year saw two Italian excellences parading on the catwalk: the Ladies of the Sea they were accompanied by a fleet of fifty historic Rivas, the wooden motorboats created by Carlo Riva and which have become a global icon thanks to film stars, kings, sheikhs and entrepreneurs. The colorful ones are also very popular passborn as fishing boats in the second half of the 19th century.

The event concluded in the Arsenale with the awarding of prizes created by the historic Murano glassworks Barovier & Toso. “We have reached the eleventh edition with 31 boats lined up on the starting line,” commented Anna Licia Balzan during the award ceremony “for the Principality of Monaco Trophy it is an absolute record which once again demonstrates how the passion for vintage sails is in perfect harmony with the indissoluble bond that the Serenissima has with the sea.”  L’AON Special Award has been assigned al famous heart surgeon Gino Gerosa for his human and professional qualities and for his great passion for the sea and sailing.

The Trophy was organized with the sports direction of Mirko Sguariopresident of the Yacht Club Venezia and patron of the Venice Hospitality Challenge, in collaboration with the Circolo Velico PortodiMare, Venice Boat Show, Vela Spa and with the patronage of the Navy, Cities in celebration, and of A.I.V.E. Italian Association of Vintage Sails. President of the Regatta Committee Giancarlo Frizzarin assisted by judges Emilia Barbieri and Belinda Maniero. The results of the individual regattas will contribute to the score for the awarding of the AIVE Cup of the Adriatic 2024.

This edition of the Trophy saw the participation of at his side for the first time Aon with one Special Award, the confirmed support of Nature’s, Villa Sandi, Mure a Dritta, Barovier and Toso for regatta prizes, technical sponsors Canella, Dolomia, il Palato Italiano, Zur Kaiserkron, Batzen. Particular attention was paid to the environment thanks to Mureadrita which provided the crews with technical clothing obtained from the recycling of PET plastic bottles.
