Sinner effect on Como, the numbers say it

“Sinner Effect” also in Como? The numbers – all growing – of Como tennis seem to say this. A champion like the South Tyrolean, thanks to his popularity, obtained thanks to victories at the Australian Open, in the Davis Cup with Italy, is acting as a driving force for grassroots activity. The diffusion of this sport is at the highest levels and in every area. Not only new recruits, but also new technicians and sports centers, divided between tennis and padel, which has now entered the federation on a permanent basis.

Any numbers? The province of Como can count on 88 teachers, who work in 37 tennis and padel clubs: 20 of these have a tennis school certified by Fitp. The numbers are growing: there are 4,525 members in the province of Como, of which 929 are competitive and 2,158 are non-competitive. The growth is important – and it is above all under this heading that the Sinner effect is visible – highlighted by the data of the tennis schools: 1,500 young people attend a tennis course.

Not only that: there are also 5 wheelchair athletes and 3 clubs that host this activity. What if we also counted those who, without any constraints or competitive ambitions, meet on Thursday evenings to play in friendship? The numbers would probably double.

It must be said that, in addition to the results on the field, the good health of Italian tennis also depends on the federation’s investments in the diffusion of tennis. Entering, for example, into schools and beyond, as the provincial delegate Walter Schmidinger explains: «With the Fit Junior Program and “Racchette in Classe” we are obtaining great participation. With Fit Junior we have organized four stages since January, with an average of 164 students: we are the second largest province in Lombardy after Milan. At the regional master, we have 32 athletes, the results of the Tennis Club Dongo and Top Spin Loveno stand out.”
