Florence, 13 June 2024 – Un Contemporary Architecture Award but with particular attention to its social function, in which the whole of society participates and in which it represents itself by designing its own cities and its own territory, trying to promote a better quality of life even in individual aspects of everyday life. The six winning projects of the fourth edition of Tuscan Architecture Award (PAT) have shown themselves to be fully immersed in the request for the ability to interpret the context, the social functionality of the works created, the construction quality and environmental responsibility, key parameters of the evaluation. Of the 119 works submitted for consideration by the Jury, they won the prize relating to the five categories foreseen – first work, new construction work, restoration or recovery work, installation or interior work, work on public spaces, landscape or regeneration – The House of the Architect (Collodi, Pistoia), Scuola Normale Superiore Library (Pisa), Cantina di Guado al Tasso (Castagneto Carducci, Livorno), Factory (Florence), GO – Giunti Odeon (Florence) and Borgo di Torri (Sovicille, Siena) .
THE There are six projects awarded for this edition because the jury awarded an ex-aequo in the restoration or recovery work category. the exhibition of the winning, mentioned and selected projects will also be inaugurated and will remain on display until 21 June. The installation of the exhibition in this fourth edition was the subject of a competition which saw the winner of the project entitled “La charrette” by the architects. Francesca Sorli, Mario Del Gaudio and Giulia Zucca, which recalls – as underlined in the jury’s motivations – “with freshness and playfulness, the world of construction”.
As in past editions, this fourth edition also rewarded research, the quality of design work, the architectural work as a tool for regeneration and transformation of the territory, today more than ever at the center of the debate in terms of sustainability and the relationship between man and environment. The jury for this 2024 edition was made up of architects Michele De Lucchi, Michel Carlana, Francesco Isidori, Claudia Mainardi and professor Emanuela Saporito, the latter elected president. Carlana was among the founders of the “Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli” studio in 2010 and is a professor at the IUAV University of Venice and at the University of Genoa; De Lucchi, designer, professor at the Polytechnic of Milan, director of the Domus magazine in 2018, is an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic; Isidori, Visiting professor at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, founded the Labics studio in 2002; Mainardi, together with the Fosbury Architecture collective, curated the Italian Pavilion at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice; Saporito, formerly a researcher at the Polytechnic of Turin, is a consultant at Labsus where she supports public administrations, public institutions, third sector entities and active citizens on the issues of shared administration of common goods.
The president of the Tuscany Regional Council Antonio Mazzeo explained that “like every year the Architecture Award is an opportunity for a reflection on the present and future of this sector”, according to the president of the Order of Architects of Florence Andrea Crociani “the results of the fourth edition of the Pat have fully confirmed the initial premises and expectations”. “With the fourth edition, a new cycle ideally opens which introduces, compared to the previous ones, a small but important and significant innovation: a design competition, dedicated to young designers, for the setting up of the traveling exhibition”, he stated Thomas Barni, president of the Organizing Committee. Second Caterina Binipresident of the Florence Architects Foundation, the projects sent show “a renewed attention to architecture in creating sociality and with the common objective of promoting a better quality of life, without neglecting sustainability”. Luighennet Teklècoordinator of the Federation of Tuscan PPC Architects, spoke of “high level projects”, for the vice president of Ance Toscana and member of the organizing committee Vincenzo Di Nardo “architecture” must “be oriented towards a new design logic”.
