Kora Connection was born from the connection between the Kora, an ancient African harp with 22 strings, and modern music. Fusion and contamination that originate from ancient ethnic sounds, delicately cross and touch upon different styles, genres and musical influences, are freely contaminated with electronic, jazz, fusion, funky and pop elements. Undisputed priority is given to rhythm, ancestral sounds, the experimentation of different settings up to the deep genre, resulting from the mutual influence between kora, electronics, kalimba, mallets, ancient Afro songs and bass. Musicians, instruments and musical paths that start from distant points and find union in new, unprecedented connections.
The Project is inspired by multiculturalism, by music as a bridge between different peoples and musical cultures and proposes modern world music scenarios.
The “kora” is a little-known instrument, generally played by African “griots” in traditional contexts and is played by very few people in Italy.
Kora connection is a unique project in the area and brings Kora to the fore, tested in a new, modern and innovative guise.
Band selected by Puglia Sounds in the “Tour Italy 2022”, “Tour Italy 2023” (tour in Basilicata, Calabria, Puglia, Emilia Romagna) and “Export 2023” (tour in Portugal, Germany) programs and presented as an emerging Apulian band with a wide range national and international at the international fair “Jazzahead!22022” in Bremen (Germany) in April 2022.
On October 21, 2023, the first recording work “Somewhere over the sea” was released, presented at WOMEX 2023 (World Music Expo) in La Coruna at the end of October 2023 and distributed on all digital platforms.
