CESENA: Strike of the Sala Conta Battistolli workers

Yesterday and today the workers of the Sala Conta Battistolli in Cesena are going on strike again to demand adequate pay and classification. Last week the workers broke the silence and went on strike for two days, in the last two hours of the shift. The strike called by Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil in the Cesena area continues this week too: the female workers tired of being demoted and paid less than their male colleagues employed in the plant will cross their arms for the entire work shift on Thursday 27th and Friday 28 June. “The story of the Sala Conta Battistolli has all the characteristics of a history of discrimination based on gender” writes CGIL in a note, “which starts from afar, from 2016 when the company decided to apply two different contracts within the same office of work: a national collective agreement signed by the most representative unions for the security guards and a contract with fewer protections and signed by the less representative unions for the female employees of the Counting Room”. Discrimination that cost each worker an average of 3,500 Euros per year, a figure that weighs especially heavily on single-income families, almost half among the workers in the Hall. Subsequently, the Private Security CCNL was also applied to the employees of the Counting Room but with a difference: unlike what was applied until 2016, the same women were given a sub-classification, with a salary that leads them to earn almost 20% less than their male colleagues. Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil of the Cesena area are asking the company to recognize the fourth level of the reference CCNL also for female workers, with a remuneration proportionate to the quantity and quality of the work carried out and sufficient to ensure the families an existence free and dignified, in implementation of the Art. 36 of the Constitution.
