the initiatives undertaken by the Mondo Gino Lisa Association are commendable. It is essential that the offer of the Foggia airport is known in the neighboring provinces. However, a fundamental problem remains: the promised works for the construction of the new terminal by Aeroporti di Puglia are at a standstill. That work, scheduled to begin in October 2023, has not yet begun.
Another crucial aspect is the expansion of external areas for parking vehicles and aircraft, which is urgent. Currently, to increase the space intended for vehicles, it would be necessary to expand beyond the road, demolishing dilapidated buildings and building a car park capable of accommodating at least 1,000 vehicles. It is imperative to think big because in Foggia, all the public works created are characterized by “pathological dwarfism”: structures that are too small, built without a future vision.
Infrastructure must precede connections. It is essential to remember that Foggia airport needs a runway of at least 3,000 meters to allow the landing of any type of aircraft. The current runway significantly limits the airport’s operations. Furthermore, it is essential to build an adequate control tower. The current remote control system, adopted by others, could prove vulnerable to dangerous failures.
A further management error was the organization of the connecting bus timetables, which do not coincide with the departures and arrivals of the planes. This creates considerable inconvenience for passengers. It is necessary to designate expert and responsible people to resolve these critical issues.
In summary, for the development of Foggia airport, it is essential to create adequate and functional infrastructure, designed for the future. Only in this way will it be possible to guarantee an efficient and competitive service, capable of satisfying the needs of the territory.
