On Saturday 29 June at 11 am in the 19th century Palazzo del Capitolo della Cattedrale, in via Alessandro Manzoni in Savona, the ceremony for the delivery of the space set aside for the “Protected Resignation” project to the Sono Sempre Io volunteer association, made up of staff from the Hospice Centro Misericordia Santa Maria Giuseppa Rossello, will take place.

“This is a small dream realized with the collaboration of the Diocese of Savona-Noli, which has made an apartment available completely free of charge, and of some service associations in the Savona area (Lions, Rotary Club and Zonta Club) which have commit to purchasing the necessary furnishings”, say the organizers.

The hospice welcomes terminally ill cancer patients and those suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, the only one in the province of Savona. The maximum period of hospitalization is 30 days. “Sometimes it is necessary to extend hospitalization, because some of them unfortunately do not have the possibility of being cared for at home and accompanied in a dignified manner at the end of their lives”, explains the association. For this reason the volunteers decided to set up two “protected” beds in a different location and thus continue to guarantee adequate assistance.

“Even just the fact that employees, to do their job better, have made this choice of service is finally good news and a further sign of how volunteering, uniting in important synergies, is able to achieve with constant attention to the fragilities and needs of people”, declare the promoters of the award ceremony.
