Queen of the casts of Alien, Ghostbusters, Working Girl and Avatar, Sigourney Weaver will arrive at the Venice 2024 exhibition to collect the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
The queen of sets Sigourney Weaver will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival Venezia 2024which will run from August 28 to September 7, 2024. The star of Alien, Ghostbusters, Gorilla in the fog, Avatar and the recent The master gardener Paul Schrader will be at the Lido to collect the coveted award and to meet the Italian public.
The decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Biennale, chaired by Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, who endorsed the proposal of the Director of the Exhibition, Alberto Barbera.
“I am truly honored to receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Venice Biennale” said Sigourney Weaver in accepting the proposal. “This award is a privilege that I share with all directors and collaborators I have worked with over the years. I proudly accept this recognition, which also celebrates all those who helped bring these films to life.”

The director of the Venice Film Festival, Alberto Barbera, was particularly satisfied and declared: “There are few rivals for an actress of Sigourney Weaver’s caliber. With an important theatrical background, she has conquered the general cinema audience with Ridley Scott’s Alien, quickly becoming one emblematic figure of the 80s, during which he coined the image of aunprecedented heroine for the action genre, capable of successfully holding her own against the male models who until then had dominated epic and adventure cinema.
