What happens at the Verri institute in Busto? Principals and employees on the run, fiery letters and worried families

Busto Arsizio (Varese) – The shadow of an alleged man “Verri system”. Three principals alternated in three years. The “lynching” and “discredit”, in the words of the Managers’ Association, suffered by the last colleague. Chain resignations. Letters of fire. Solidarity and intertwined controversies. The anger of the substitute teachers. The closed laboratories and the dismay of the students. A petition from the families he invokes “justice and transparency”. It’s a hot end to the year at the professional hotel institute in Busto Arsizio. The principal Barbara Pellegatta, already the target of intimidation (an offensive text was displayed at the school entrance in April) signed his resignation on 22 May. Immediately afterwards his deputy left office, Antonella Ammirati, and the president of the school council took a step back. Now some employees of the administrative secretariat have asked to be transferred to another location.

What happens to Verri? The school seems paralyzed by bureaucratic problems. A political case too, already brought up mayor Emanuele Antonelli’s table. Let’s take an example: the salaries not paid for months to non-tenured teachers. When accused, the principal received the solidarity of 80 colleagues and the Association of School Managers (PNA): “Pellegatta – we read in the letter on Verri – asked to be placed in leave without pay until the end of the school year. Thus ends a story that leaves a strong bitter taste in the mouth, because the colleague made a generous effort in taking on the effective management of one of the most important and complex institutes in the Busto area. Effort that collided head-on first with the attempt to homologate it to the prevailing system and, faced with her unavailability, aimed at creating a vacuum around her, surrounding her with deceptions and traps, with the sole aim of discredit her and subject her to a blatant lynching made of tazebao and leaflets, cowardly anonymous”. The PNA speaks of “Verri system” and hopes that sooner or later “someone will decide to lift the lid”. He continues the letter: “We do not want to be indifferent. His expectation does not close the matter.”

Now the parents of the students are also moving. A petition is online at Change.org. Title: “We want transparency”. First effect: hundreds of signups. Mothers and fathers write: “All pupils have the right to study and to use school services. They are there classes without substitutes and fragile students without support e every year the current manager leaves. We want to understand why the professionals at the Verri Institute are not paid adequately and punctually it is not possible for the manager to work peacefully”.
