The Vicenza Prosecutor’s Office has mobilized the special forces of the Carabinieri, including the ROS and the RIS experts, to find those responsible for the robbery that took place in Roberto Baggio’s residence in Altavilla Vicentina. The robbers, dressed in black, with balaclavas and gloves to avoid leaving traces, entered the house of the former number 10 of the Italian national team, located in the Vicenza hills. The investigators, reports Il Giornale, suspect that a gang of professionals is behind the action, perhaps supported by an internal informant who knew the farmhouse and the habits of the Baggio family well. This could be someone who has been working on the house, knowing that the security system is only activated when the family goes to bed. A real mole.

Roberto Baggio, in a long deposition, said he feared for his family and tried to protect them. In an attempt to defend himself, he hit one of the robbers, then suffered a blow to the head with the butt of a gun which left him bleeding on the ground. In the house with him were his wife Andreina, his sons Leonardo and Mattia, the girlfriend of one of his sons and his mother-in-law. The robbers locked them in a room for 40 minutes while they stole gold, jewelery and luxury watches, including some Rolexes. The robbers were looking for a safe, which however does not exist in Baggio’s house. Instead they found an armored cabinet containing the champion’s hunting rifles, which were left at the site along with the trophies, including the Golden Ball, kept in bulletproof cases. The attackers were only interested in money and valuables, leaving everything else behind.

After the robbery, the thieves fled with the help of accomplices outside, who were waiting for them with getaway vehicles. It cannot be ruled out that they used clean cars to avoid nearby checkpoints. According to initial hypotheses, the newspaper continues, they could be former mercenaries from Eastern Europe.
