The mayor of Latina Matilde Celentano, late this afternoon, returned to Soni, the 26-year-old Indian widow of the agricultural worker who died following an accident at work and failure to provide assistance.
The meeting, which was held in a protected home in the Latina area, took place on the occasion of the arrival in Italy of Raman Deep, Soni’s 25-year-old sister.
Raman Deep arrived at Fiumicino airport on a flight from Indiana and was accompanied to Latina by the police.
“I still remember the long hug that the two young sisters gave each other and their tears. I wanted to say goodbye to them and reiterate the closeness of the municipal administration and our community. Tomorrow they will be transferred to another city, for protection reasons”, Mayor Celentano reported.
“I thank the Carabinieri, and in particular Lieutenant Arpaia, commander of the Carabinieri of the Borgo Podgora station – continued the mayor – for the tact and sensitivity shown in this very delicate story and the International Organization for Migration of the UN that has been dealing with Soni since last Friday, providing her with cultural mediation support and for the activation of protection tools”.
“Now we will take care of the burial of Satnam Singh. The Prosecutor’s Office did not authorize the cremation, but released the body,” concluded the mayor.
