“A year and a half for the final OK”

Massimiliano Mistretta, Councilor for Public Works and Mobility of the Milanese municipality, spoke about it to Milannews.it: “The project is calibrated for a capacity of 70,000 spectators, it will be ready by 2029”

The Lombardy Region has approved in recent days the resolution that provides for the adhesion to the program agreement for the project of the San Donato Stadium al Milan and therefore the Rossoneri club’s plan to abandon San Siro it is becoming more and more concrete. Concrete but not exactly close in terms of time, because as the Councilor for Public Works and Mobility of the municipality of San Donato Milanese declared, Massimiliano Mistrettafor the final approval it will take about a year and a half: “After the confirmation of the companies belonging to Ferrovie, the Lombardy Region also joined the proposed Program Agreement – he declared to Milannews.it – now membership is still missing of the Metropolitan City to give a concrete start to the work table that will define the project contents and interventions related to the stadium operation. This is an administrative process that will last approximately a year and a half at the end of which the commitments that each subject will take on the public viewing of a work that will certainly determine a new identity for our territory”.

“The technical times allow us to achieve the objective of inaugurating today the new stadium in 2029“, added Mistretta, who also spoke about the expected capacity: “The project of the stadium in San Donato is calibrated on a capacity of 70,000 spectators. I believe that this hypothesis derives precisely from studies that Milan has carried out to size the stadium, optimizing the intervention as much as possible.”

Why is San Donato the better solution than the renovation of San Siro? “The San Francesco area in San Donato represents an option that offers many advantages as it is outside the urban fabric of the city, it is served by the railway line; it is bordered by the motorway, it is very close to the Rogoredo and San Donato stops of the MM3 and is particularly close to the Linate airport, however, there are also critical issues that must necessarily be resolved to guarantee a sustainable impact of a project that will bring tens of thousands of people to our territory”.

The traffic problem: “The stadium project proposes various hypotheses to respond to the critical issues related to road access. These are interventions that still need to be validated, but we would like to aim for an improvement of the station and public mobility such as to minimize the need to access to the area with the private car which in perspective must become the least used response”.
