Rai visits the city to discover Livorno Underground

Press release by LEM

Livorno, 25 June 2024 – Yesterday morning the Rai Special of TG1 “Italia Sotterranea” stopped in Livorno, edited by the investigative correspondent Patrizia Angelini who is also the creator of the format.

Filming began in Puglia. From here the troupe moved to Tuscany, to Livorno, and in the next few days it will be on Elba Island, in the area of the metalliferous hills from Campiglia Marittima to Follonica, but also in Baratti, Populonia, Castiglion della Pescaia, Bibbona and San Vincenzo .

The crew was accompanied to discover Livorno by the LEM Foundation, the body responsible for caring for journalists involved in this type of reporting. In particular, the external relations sector of the Foundation planned and organized the visit to the galleries of the Fortezza Vecchia, the Fortezza Nuova and the underground cellar of over a thousand square meters owned by the Livorno Foundation located between Via Borra and Scali del Monte Pio. The tour’s companion was Fabrizio Ottone, president of the Labroniche Guide Association, who illustrated to the Rai journalist the originalities of the underground architectural fabric of Livorno.

Mayor Luca Salvetti made a point of greeting journalist Patrizia Angelini at the end of the visit to Livorno.

“The attention paid to our city” highlighted the mayor, “is now not only measured in terms of arrivals, as indisputably attested by the data on tourism in Tuscany, but also in terms of attention from national information bodies and international. This confirms that the work carried out in the tourism sector is also bearing fruit in terms of the communicative attractiveness of the city and the quality of the welcome towards journalists that we are able to offer. A virtuous circle that can do nothing but good for the image of a city that is truly opening up to tourism.”

Culture councilor Simone Lenzi stated: “I am pleased to note an ever-growing interest from television and film productions in our city. However, it is not a coincidence. If Livorno has an extraordinary light and is, in itself, a fascinating set that can tell a thousand stories, we must also say that the administrative machine is capable of competently providing all the necessary support for productions and in the city you can find all the professionals that make our city attractive for audiovisual productions.”

For the success of the filming, the dedicated services of the Municipality of Livorno, those of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority for the Old Fortress and the managers of the New Fortress were activated.

After Tuscany, the Rai crew will be in three other cities: Bologna, Catania and Naples, but will also visit lesser-known centres. The field work will last three months and will give life to a final product lasting approximately one hour which will be broadcast in autumn on Rai 1.
