«Civitavecchia wants to turn the page»

CIVITAVECCHIA – «I believe that in Civitavecchia there is a desire to move on». The newly elected mayor of Civitavecchia is convinced of this Marco Piendibenecandidate of the centre-left, who immediately comments on the result obtained in the run-off against the candidate of the centre-right Massimiliano Grasso.

«It was certainly a difficult challenge – he added -, if looking back at the start of this electoral competition we had a very difficult run-off but little by little even with the few means available we gave the citizens of Civitavecchio the perception of being the real alternative with a program credible and a very renewed team together with all the experience of the mayor and some councillors. I believe that in Civitavecchia there is a desire to turn the page, which in my opinion was the key because the vote that supported us was a vote of opinion and I believe that this testifies, beyond party loyalty, to the trust in a team – he concluded – and our team was already evident 15 days ago.”

The former mayoral candidate of the M5S, now in the coalition in support of Piendibene Enzo D’Antò: «Paradoxically we were the ones who thought it was a complicated choice, in reality the people took it more enthusiastically than ours and the result was evident because both our people and Piendibene’s supporters went to vote in a compact and the result was clear, a clear victory and therefore we are truly satisfied and happy and we are sure that we made the right choice from the beginning so the path we have taken up to today was the one that has rewarded us the most. I express my closeness to Massimiliano Grasso because I experienced defeat in the first round, but I am sure that even from the opposition he will be able to give his contribution to the city council. It was a good electoral campaign, correct from all points of view so we hope that together we can do a good job.”

An expanded coalition which, according to D’Antò, had as its strong point the centre-right itself «which united all the forces of the progressive area and the centre-left because we were all strongly concerned about the critical issues that our city will have to face and then at an even higher level, no one likes the drift that this center-right is giving the country, so we found ourselves united on this front.”

And to the question “will we see a D’Antò deputy mayor?” he replied: «I don’t think so but we’ll see».
