After the gaffe, silence. The historical error on Christopher Columbus And Galileo Galilei of the Minister of Culture, Gennaro Sangiuliano, made the news and on Monday 24 June, intercepted by a journalist, the Mic owner chose to ignore the question. From the opposition, however, there was no shortage of jokes.

Before the Council of Ministers, Gennaro Sangiuliano was approached by a journalist.
When asked about the Galileo-Colombo gaffe, however, the former director of Tg2 chose silence, continuing on.

Vincenzo De Luca’s joke about the Minister of Culture
The person who chose to speak instead was Vincenzo De Luca, president of the Campania Region, on the sidelines of his speech at the presentation of the restyling works of the Porta Nolana station in Naples:
“If someone from the national government comes to make an appearance or someone follows the path of Galileo Galilei, know that the national government has not allocated a single euro”.
The M5S attack
Also at the forefront is another opposition party, the M5S, which also recalled the gaffes at the Strega Prize and on Times Square, a symbol of New York however localized in London by the minister:
“What did a country like Italy, known throughout the world for its culture, do wrong to have someone like Gennaro Sangiuliano as a minister? After having collected all kinds of gaffesafter judging i books without having read them, after placing Times Square to Londonyesterday he went so far as to say that Columbus would have circumnavigated the earth on the basis of Galileo’s theories, who however was born several decades after Columbus landed in America. With his statements more embarrassing every day it is Gennaro Sangiuliano who circumnavigates history and culture with his own ignorance. If only he had a minimum of dignity he would take a step back and realize that he is inappropriate of the role it plays. His ineptitude is one constant disfigurement to Italian culture”.
