German Chancellor Olaf Scholz declares himself worried about the possible victory of the French far right

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed concern about the prospect of a far-right victory in the next ones flash parliamentary elections in France.

“I am worried about the elections in France,” he said Scholz to the German public broadcaster Ard, “and I hope that the parties that are not (Marine) Le Pen, so to speak, are successful in the elections. But this will be decided by the French people,” he added.

What do the polls predict?

According to polls, the French president’s governing alliance Emmanuel Macronwill place third in the legislative elections of June 30th, behind Marine Le Pen’s far-right Rassemblement National (RN) and a new left-wing alliance.

The leader of the RN, Jordan Bardellacould become the next French prime ministeralthough the 28-year-old has insisted that he will only accept the job if his party and its allies win an absolute majority of seats.

Germany’s far-right AfD party also gained ground in this month’s European Parliament elections, while Scholz’s governing coalition suffered.

The Chancellor stated that will continue to see Macron at the head of the government regardless of the outcome of the elections.
