“We register elements of demagogy. I received a meeting request for the night closure of the emergency room in Sant’Agata de’ Goti. This thing, concretely, has two paths: it is a demagogic action, that is, a waste of time, or the San Pio emergency room in Benevento must be closed.
The manager of the Benevento hospital made a request for 13 doctors in the emergency room. We made a last-ditch attempt with a single regional competition and we recovered around 50 specialists and post-graduates. None of this accepted Benevento as a destination. Due to the availability of staff, it is difficult to stay open 24 hours even in Benevento. The night closure in Sant’Agata was inevitable.”
At the end, the governor takes things further: “When such initiatives are carried out, the citizen is condemned to death. For serious cases you need to go to Benevento which is better equipped. If someone wants to protest and organize a bus, the direction to take is Rome, to the Ministry and the Region will be in the front row, willing to also pay for the means of transport. It is the Ministry that can increase staff, double salaries and contract specialists. The time for demagoguery is over, there are no staff even in the big hospitals.”
