Common: between dissing and propaganda

In recent days there has been a certain amount of turmoil at Palazzo di Città. Those of “let’s do it for Taranto” suddenly often have time to keep up with the public dissing with their old cronies…

Mayor Melucci has become a prolific writer of personalized interventions to be published, some in selected media outlets, others as press releases to be distributed to everyone. It’s a shame that there is little newsworthy content and that probably in other times it would have only been good as a post on one’s social channels.

The fact is that the level of political debate has dropped so much that the mayor and three of his former fellow councilors are on the same level to tease and sometimes even offend each other, perhaps still unaware of the fact that ordinary people are no longer interested in politics, even cause of their behaviors. Not only that but, journalistically speaking, politics done in this way, by all the actors: right, centre, left, fluid and beggarly, no longer pays off in terms of views. From the “Abbate” case onwards it has been a continuous downturn…But even more, have these politicians and administrators of ours realized that people no longer go to vote?

Where we don’t spend our free time dissing or commenting en masse on social media on news deemed unfounded, our heroes continue to spread propaganda by shuffling the cards on the table and only bringing out the good ones.

We report verbatim what we received in the editorial mail: “respecting the regulatory deadlines and leveraging the resources available, infrastructural works have been started that will completely change the face of the city: the BRT line, the cycle paths, the maintenance of the city roads of which 30 percent of all urban arteries and sports facilities have been asphalted (hear, hear…) and will be either built from scratch or massively redeveloped (such as the Iacovone Stadium) to host the next Mediterranean Games. From a cultural point of view, for example, the “Italian Biennial of Architecture and Contemporary Art of the Mediterranean” was established, the offer of the “Acclavio” Municipal Library was strengthened, just as the area of the former Cattolica Barracks was recovered creating in its place the BAC, the Park of Arts, Sciences and Music where the new Theater will be inaugurated next year”.

“For a total investment plan of around 120 million for the historic centre, interventions have been arranged in archaeological areas, prestigious buildings, squares, social housing and the Hypogea, while as part of the “Pinqua” programme, the innovative plan for the quality of living and living which concerns the Old City and the “Paolo VI” district, some tenders for the renovation of accommodation have already been awarded. In terms of social regeneration, using the “ex ILVA funds”, 20 and a half million euros were invested for the start-up and definition of twelve projects; on the subject of innovation and environmental sustainability, the House of Emerging Technologies “Calliope” is active, which has already incubated 13 start-ups, the foundations have been laid for the creation of the new “IRIIS” research institute, agreements have been signed for around one and a half million euros with the three Apulian universities, the redevelopment of the city’s “green areas” is underway, construction sites have started in the “Tamburi” district for a 40 million investment (the latest in chronological order is that for the construction of the “Green Belt)”.

Many of the works mentioned are still in the start-up phase and from here to get to the famous “Done 100” the journey is still long and so perhaps we will bring out some of the rubbish that has been kept hidden, just to balance the model administration storytelling that we want to do pass.

So in no particular order we ask ourselves why Villa Peripato is abandoned to itself, why the same fate has befallen the Lungomare, when will the Mar Piccolo Waterfront be ready, when will Parco Cimino be valorised and redeveloped, when will separate waste collection be fully operational throughout the city, when the works on Palazzo Archita will be finished (defined as urgent with a start date of 30 August 2023 and a contractual time of 150 days elapsed), when the Athletics stadium will be delivered (it should have been so for a couple of years), when I decorate and cleanliness will be guaranteed throughout the city on a continuous basis, when the tourist Info Pont in Piazza Garibaldi is reopened, possibly with an undamaged access door (indecent business card), when they give water to the saplings in the Green Passage, when Taranto will be equipped with multi-storey or underground car parks like Bari and Lecce…

Many questions, not even all of them, to which we await answers. Not under a Facebook post though….
