Foligno, 24 June 2024 – The Colfiorito Park opens the summer season with two initiatives which will be held on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June. With the first, the usual evening dedicated to astronomy organized by the Astronomica Antares Foligno association returns. The formation of galaxies is one of the open questions in astronomy; the new JWST and Euclid space telescopes are exploring the Universe up to 10 billion light-years away to map the evolutionary history of galaxies and help us understand the details of their formation.
The evening’s program includes a conference entitled “How Galaxies are Born” held by prof. at 9.30 pm in the Park headquarters (formerly the Barracks). Roberto Nesci, of the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Planetology of Rome (INAF/IAPS). At 10.30pm, meet at the crossroads for Forcatura, near the Colfiorito swamp with an illustration of the summer constellations by the volunteer members of Antares.
For Saturday 29 June there is an afternoon dedicated to nature and music. Also this year the UmbriaEnsemble association proposes the “Colfiorito between Nature and Music” formula with the “Voci di Praghiera” concert with music by Caccini, Mercadante, Paganini, Rossini, Verdi and Franck. The exhibition will be preceded by a guided tour of the Park’s Naturalistic Museum and an exploratory walk in the Colfiorito swamp.
The concert is part of the musical review “Suoni di Boschi e d’Abbezie”, conceived and created by UmbriaEnsemble with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Umbria Region and the ‘Guglielmo Giordano’ Foundation which offers a calendar of live concerts in some of the most evocative sites of secret Umbria.
Abbeys, cloisters, fortresses and thousand-year-old monumental sites that interact with naturalistic sites that are as evocative as they are unexplored by the most popular tourist routes. Here is the program: at 5pm guided tour of the Naturalistic Museum of Colfiorito followed by a nature walk in the swamp to observe the environment and its inhabitants. At 7pm concert “Voci di Preghiera” in the Maria SS.Assunta church in Colfiorito. Both initiatives are sponsored by the Municipality of Foligno. All activities are free to enter, especially the astronomy evening. In this regard, country clothing with comfortable, closed shoes is recommended, given the time of night and the location.
