ASTIDonatella Boglione, Roberto Gerardini, Luca Narciso, Erika Testa and Claudio Vottero are the first winners of the Italian team plogging championship. In Asti the “Ploggbusters” (this is the name with which they identified themselves) defeated the competition, winning the first prize offered by the sponsor Scarpa and above all the right to participate at the first edition of the world team plogging championshipscheduled for November 17 in Genoaas part of the events that see the Ligurian capital European Capital of Sport 2024.

In the race that started from the De Andrè Area with greetings from the municipal administration represented by Mayor Maurizio Rasero and the deputy mayor Stefania Morraby CONI represented by Lavinia Saracco, the participating teams competed on a free course finishing at the athletics track in via Gerbi. At the finish line, the quantity of waste collected by each team was parameterized with the environmental data relating to the materials themselves and the CO2 avoided, drawing up an environmental performance ranking. This is the podium:

  1. Plogbusters (Donatella Boglione, Roberto Gerardini, Luca Narciso, Erika Testa and Claudio Vottero) – 64,780
  2. Green Years (Secondo Balsamo, Sonia Giacosa, Lara Maiolo, Renato Diodà) – 49,489
  3. Sports Ambassadors of the City of Asti (Renato Zanelli, Gianfranco Chiaranda, Federica Giannotti, Loredana Pozzato, Vincenzo Manta, Speranza Vorraro) – 44.756

In the ceremony, attended by Stefania Morra and some sponsors such as Vietti (who with Nicoletta Orsello honored the first three teams with bottles from the cellar), Erion Care and ASP, some special prizes were awarded: to Down Center of Asti received the Erion Care award for the greatest number of butts collected; the team Cepim, on the other hand, was rewarded for fielding athletes with disabilities; finally, the class of 2005 Francesco Rosso was awarded as the youngest athlete of the event.

In addition to sporting results, the environmental data is also of great importance: during the race, 217.11 kg of waste was collected by all teamswith an average of approximately 46.61 kg of waste per team. 80.34% of what was collected was sent for recycling and the CO2 avoided was 326.30 kg.
