Sassari. Tourists discovering Northern Sardinia thanks to the Holiday Dialysis Project: the project that will see tourists performing dialysis in the centers of Alghero, Porto Torres and Sassari has started in recent days in the ASL of Sassari.
From 10 June to 30 September, over three hundred dialysis sessions dedicated to tourists will be performed, in addition to the over 31,200 “fixed dialysis patients”, those residents who are followed by healthcare workers throughout the year.
The purpose of dialysis is not only to extend life, but also to improve its quality: the effectiveness of the therapy is also measured on the possibility for the patient to lead an almost normal life and therefore to be able to travel and go on holidays, live a life like that of your loved ones.
For this reason the ASL n. 1, thanks to the collaboration with the staff of SC Nephrology and Dialysis, has set up a project to meet the needs of the many tourists who frequent the coasts of northern Sardinia and who need dialysis assistance to plan their stay.
The artificial kidney is used in cases of blockage and severe renal failure and allows the blood to be purified from the metabolic waste present in it. The blood, passing through various filters, is put back into circulation and purified.
Nephropathic patients must periodically undergo hemodialysis treatment to replace renal function: in 80% of patients the treatment is performed three times a week, with a duration of approximately four hours for each session.
The Dialisi Vacanze project includes “kidneys” dedicated to tourists who will work three times a week: to access the service simply send an email to [email protected], specifying:
– In the subject: the chosen dialysis centre, Alghero, Porto Torres or Sassari (San Camillo)
– In the body of the email: dates on which they would like to carry out dialysis and telephone contact
Following receipt and evaluation of the request, a response email will follow.
To the tourists who this year will be followed in the summer period by the doctors of the ASL 1 centers are also added the “fixed dialysis patients”, those patients who are followed in the Sassari centers throughout the year: there are 200 people who go three times a week for dialysis, between Alghero, Bono, Ozieri, Porto Torres, Sassari and Thiesi, for a total of 31,200 dialysis treatments provided in the twelve months of the year.
“This service aims to be a sign of civility and inclusion towards our population which must necessarily also pass through the health services offered by the local network: being able to count on a dialysis service close to your holiday destination allows you to enjoy, safely and efficiently regardless of the illness, of one’s free time in the company of one’s loved ones”, declared the general director of the ASL of Sassari, Flavio Sensi, who immediately approved the project drawn up by the head of the service, Doctor Giovanna Pisanu: “I thank all the staff who with a great gesture of altruism stepped forward to guarantee an additional service aimed at tourists”, said Pisanu.
