Castiglione della Pescaia (Grosseto), 24 June 2024 – We are now at the end Junethe summer season has begun, but for the motorfishers of Castiglione della Pescaia the logistical problems that affect the working days continue sea. The fishing companies from Castiglione, in fact, were hosted in the Marineria of the Port of Punta Ala for over seven months, not being able to enter the Canal Port.

“This has led to important economic losses – says Federpesca Roberto Manai – with serious inconvenience for the crews who had to relocate. In the second week of June they had to return to the Canale port of Castiglione, even though the logistical conditions of the seabed were not adequate. From that moment on, the fishing boats had to face further difficulties in exiting and entering the Canal Port due to the shallow seabed and the shoal that formed just outside the tip of the eastern pier. The Municipality’s interventions have not substantially changed the seabed.”

As this situation persists, Federpesca he also requested a meeting with the prefect Paola Berardino, during which the category representatives explained the situation. “The administration – underlines Manai – has highlighted the economic and logistical difficulties it must undergo in order to implement an intervention which certainly would not solve the problem, since in a short time the sea would bring back any sand excavated”.

The result is that the Castiglione crews can only go out to work in perfect weather and sea conditions and with favorable tides. “Companies are losing fishing days – adds Manai –, but above all they are losing turnover, as they are forced to reduce the daily fishing period while maintaining the same management costs”.

The price of diesel first of all, but also the maintenance work and the required equipment, such as the new tablets for measuring the daily catch. “All this is bringing the fishing sector to a definitive conclusion – concludes Manai – which will materialize in the next few weeks with the implementation of the measure on the demolition of motor fishing boats and the closure of the fishing company due to ceased activity. In the area that includes Liguria , Tuscany and Lazio, over 250 fishing boats will be scrapped, with the consequent loss of fresh national fish products and 750 jobs.”
