PALERMO – Closestemporarily, the municipal kennel of Palermo. This is what was established in union 93 today, Friday 7 June, by mayor Roberto Lagalla. The closure was established because there is a case of leptospirosis inside the kennel on a dog admitted to the shelter, but also because the disease is transmissible to humans.

The mayor received notification of the leptospirosis case yesterday and immediately proceeded to issue the closure order.

For the dog, who entered the facility in via Tiro a Segno last May 27, it was not possible, given the overcrowded conditions, to observe a period of isolation, thus increasing the risks of disease transmission.

The dog has now been placed in a single boxthe same will be subjected to specific therapy by the veterinary doctors of the health facility.

Health checks will also be carried out primarily on animals that have come into contact with the infected dog tending to evaluate the status of the infection and any new suspected or infected cases.

The isolation department must be sealed with entrance reserved for RESET or veterinary staff specifically identified and equipped with appropriate PPE with disinfection of shoe soles in a special tray located at the entrance to the department.

Daily cleaning and effective disinfection must be ensured in the isolation department and periodically in the other departments.
