Cinema lands in Calabria, set of the new “Sandokan” –

In recent days, Le Castella has become a film set and a destination for many onlookers and fans. In fact, from May 27th, filming began on the remake of “Sandokan”, a famous drama from the Seventies, based on the stories of Emilio Salgari, whose exotic and adventurous atmospheres are easily found among the colorful Calabrian landscapes. Now the troupe has moved to Lamezia Terme, where a blacklot has been built within the industrial area, i.e. the space that will host the scenography of the city of Labuan. Playing the famous protagonist is Can Yaman, a Turkish actor now very popular on Italian television, who will have to deal with the shadow of the first “Tiger of Malaysia”, Kabir Bedi, who stated: “I always thought Sandokan should be remade with modern special effects. I am sure that Can Yaman will be a worthy successor.” The cast also includes newcomer Alanah Bloor in the role of Marianna, Ed Westwick or Lord Brooke, Sandokan’s bitter enemy, while the Italian actor Alessandro Preziosi is Yanez de Gomera, the corsair who is Sandokan’s most faithful friend and who in the drama was played by an extraordinary Phlippe Leroy. The drama will be broadcast on Rai 1 and subsequently throughout the world, thanks to the distribution of the Fremantle group, which includes Lux Vide, the house that produces the drama in collaboration with Rai Fiction. It is the first time that the company operates in our region, thanks to the support of the Calabria Film Commission and the Calabria Region, which followed and supported the cinematographic operation from the very beginning. On the occasion of the first take at Le Castella, the extraordinary commissioner, the president and other members of the Calabria Film Commission met Can Yaman, a moment in which he was immortalized and quickly made the rounds on social media.
