Fines: 2 million euros collected in Novara in one year

Novara, in 2023, collected over 2 million euros in fines and sanctions against private individuals for violations of the Highway Code.

Fines in Piedmont: the analysis

The data emerges from the analysis carried out by Facile.it on Siope data, the information system for the operations of public bodies. Looking at the regional ranking, Turin is in first place (54.6 million), followed by Alessandria (3.7 million), Asti (3 million), Novara (2 million), Cuneo (almost 1.5 million), Vercelli ( 1.3 million) and Biella (1 million). The municipality of Verbania closes the ranking (960,000 euros).

Overall, in 2023, the Piedmont capital municipalities collected over 68.3 million euros from traffic fines.

…and in per capita amounts

Facile.it has also calculated the value of “per capita fine” (as the ratio between the revenues recorded in Siope and the number of resident inhabitants) although, it should be specified that not all fines are inflicted on resident motorists and, indeed, in some tourist and commuter areas contribute significantly to the overall figure.

The analysis shows that also at the top of this new ranking are Turin, with a per capita fine of 64 euros, and Alessandria and Asti, both with 41 euro fines. Continuing to scroll through the ranking, Verbania (32 euros), Vercelli (30 euros) and Cuneo (27 euros) are positioned.

The municipalities of Biella (24 euros) and Novara close the ranking, with a per capita fine of just 20 euros.

Small municipalities

Limiting the analysis to Piedmontese municipalities with fewer than 6,000 residents, Canale, in the province of Cuneo, comes in first place, with 5,495 inhabitants and, in 2023, having collected more than 1 and a half million euros in traffic fines, followed by Pecetto Torinese (TO) (4,028 inhabitants, more than 881 thousand euros in fines).

For the lowest step of the podium we return to the province of Cuneo: Lagnasco which, with 1,373 inhabitants, grossed more than 673 thousand euros last year.
