The compact Lega B, including Palermo, abstains in the votes of the Federal Council

In the context of Federal Council today the League B expressed a position of constructive abstention in the vote for the approval of the Football Federation’s strategic plan, considered in its final version to be well below its initial ambitions.

In the past, Lega B has given full support to the championship reform proposal developed by the FIGC and ample willingness to approve the first version of the strategic plan presented in a substantially modified manner today in the Federal Council. The final choice of Lega B, approved by all the clubs, is not to be understood as an aversion to reforms, a theme that Lega B has been promoting for years also with substantial contributions included in the plan, but is justified from a perspective of constructive collaboration by the need for essential clarifications precisely on the most qualifying points of the provision. It is not clear, for example, what could happen if a Serie A club (for which the economic requirements, after the latest change, are not permissible as they have essentially been replaced by the UEFA license) were to relegate to Serie B where, however, the economic requirements are binding for registration in the championship. The circumstance is aggravated by the fact that there are mandatory economic parameters to register for the B and C championships which must be met at the time of verifying the requirements set out in the National Licenses. The concrete risk, to which no one in the Federal Council has been able to provide a comprehensive solution, is that someone relegated from Serie A ends up not having the registration requirements for the Serie B championship with a clear regulatory flaw and a consequent possibility of having to sacrifice the principle of fair competition on the altar of the logical fragility of the new regulatory structure.

The president of Lega B Mauro Balata on the sidelines of the federal council he declared: “We have raised criticisms about the different parameters between us and the Serie A in relation to the clubs that are promoted and relegated. It has been recognized how these problems can impact registrations in B, we want to understand how the criteria will operate in concrete terms and we will carry out the evaluations with our associates. Even the Serie A knows this problem exists.” “We expressed discomfort about this change of direction when the previous documents had stated a different principle, making everything homogeneous between the different leagues”.
