On Monday 22 April the Minister of Defence, the Hon. Guido Crosettowelcomed the representatives of the Professional Associations of Trade Union Character among Military Personnel (APCSM) at the Officers’ Club of the Italian Armed Forces.
The meeting saw the participation of prominent figures such as the Undersecretary of State for Defence, the Hon. Matteo Perego from Cremnagothe Admiral Giuseppe Cavo DragoneChief of Defense Staff, and the Minister’s Advisor, Hon. Domenico Rossi.
The Italian Army Union through the General Secretary Girolamo Fotiin his speech he underlined the importance of the Constitution as the foundation of their trade union program and outlined a series of proposals aimed at improving the conditions of the military.
Among these, we highlight the contractual renewal with adequate salary increases to the cost of living, the introduction of a Flat Tax for the military, the revision of wages for overtime work on the model of the Police, repeal of the CFG and CFI and equality in the remuneration of parachutists’ jump allowances taking into account seniority.
The Secretary also called for interventions to improve the housing and economic conditions of the soldiers involved in the “Safe Roads” operation, the proposal for a reduced working week “by eliminating Fridays”, the promotion of smart working and support for the bill to the adjustment of military pensions.
Other requests include the protection of the workplace, the harmonization of mobility policies with those of the Police Force, and the possibility of carrying out free extra-professional activities, hearing on 119.
The following day, Tuesday 23 April, a peaceful meeting was held at the Army Palace, between the Army Unions with a delegation of technicians of the highest professional competence from the First General Staff Department of the Army, led by the expert in financial policies the Colonel Cauldrons in order to support the negotiation of a favorable contract for the military. The president of the Italian Army Union, Sandro Frattalemiinsisted on the importance of addressing numerous military personnel issues in addition to the contractual issue.
Furthermore, on 24 April, the Italian Army Union will be represented by the National Secretary Domenico Bilello and by the deputy vice president Carmine Mincione at Palazzo Grazioli to discuss issues relating to the Civil Service.
In parallel, a delegation of the co-founders of the Syndicate will participate in the Euromil General Assembly in Lisbon, with the aim of moving from the status of “Observers” to “Full Member”. These meetings represent a significant step towards recognizing the needs of military personnel and improving their working conditions. Minister Crosetto now finds himself faced with the opportunity to transform these requests into concrete actions, at a time when the dialogue between the government and military representatives is becoming increasingly intense and productive.
The Italian Army Union is among the first unions with the most delegations at joint force level and the first in the defense sector.
