Purchase of textbooks, Latini’s motion: «Economic support for families»

ANCONA – «Economically facilitating families in purchasing textbooks is a fundamental act to guarantee the realization of the right to education». With these words, the president of the Marche Regional Council, Dino Latini, motivated the presentation of a motion to the Legislative Assembly, addressed to the President of the Acquaroli Council and the competent Councilor, aimed at allocating more funds to students for purchase of school books. The objective is «to overcome the constraint of the ISEE, until now used to assign the necessary contributions to first and second level high school students – continues Latini – and which does not take into account the more general economic difficulties, transversal to all sections of the population and not just the poorer ones.”

Currently, in fact, it is possible for students from the Marche region to buy school textbooks thanks to discounts, such as the Book Bonus, which take into account only the Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator, but not other important factors such as the number of dependent children within of the family unit. Not only that: this contribution was paid last year, by most municipalities, in the month of February, far from the normal period of expenditure for this type of item. «We therefore ask the Regional Council to take charge of our request and to adopt all measures to quickly facilitate families in purchasing textbooks from the beginning of the 2024/2025 school year – concludes Latini – and to expand the bonus for families with multiple children attending schools in the Region. There are possibilities to allocate further funds to integrate the benefits provided.”
