In the cool evening, prepared by the afternoon shower, the Badalucco City Council, in full, met for the first time yesterday after the elections. Outdoors. Among the bars in the square, in the shadow of San Giorgio.
At 7.41pm after the rituals: eligibility check and appeal, Matteo Orengo read the very short formula of the oath of loyalty to the Constitution of the Republic. And then, aided by the general secretary Dr. Amanda D’Avanzo, he wore the tricolor sash again. That of his second mandate and his one-party administration. Without opposition.
In Junta in addition to him, as already mentioned by our newspaper, Daniele Prevosto who is also vice mayor and Sabrina Giovanna Brezzo will sit as councilor. Enrico Carassale has therefore received the nomination of president of the City Council, while Lisa Palumbo will be group leader. The ten councilors were then assigned their delegations. These are important delegations. Among which a quite useful and curious one stands out, that of Pasquale Murachelli. He will have to deal with the ‘control’ of the execution of public works. It is a very sensitive issue in Badalucco, because there are works that are either partially completed (see fiber optics) or are going very slowly (see arrangement of the central square).
“The law allows me to have only two councilors, but the country has a complexity and a desire to grow that require the participation of everyone – said Matteo Orengo – of the citizens and councilors who are sitting around this table. Everyone will have to do their part. The councilors will have to behave like many mayors for their sector of competence, carefully and rigorously examining the assigned practices, from the beginning to the conclusion of the project. It is our duty to respond to the trust that the population has given us by voting en masse. The most absolute rigor will be necessary precisely because the opposition is lacking.”
In the first hundred days the Orengo administration intends to complete the most urgent and already started works. First of all, the creation of a sort of new public restaurant in accordance with absolute standards, which must serve above all the Pro Loco for the traditional Stockfish Festival which looms on the last Sunday of September. Then it will be the turn of the great irrigation Beodo, which will serve to guarantee water and regulate it once and for all, for the benefit of the cultivated areas of the country. Finally, a multifunctional headquarters will be built. Here there is a real gem that will put Badalucco in the center of the Argentina Valley. To create a real nursery school, an unused wing of the town hall in the center of the town will be used. All works already financed. This latest project is the first piece of the broader development program that Matteo Orengo mentioned in his inauguration speech, based on broader horizons.
“In the last part of the last council we faced the difficult problem of the re-issue of the Dam danger. We all found ourselves united, with the committee whose leader was Prof. Antonio Panizzi and the former principal Franco Bianchi, sitting here with us, and whom I thank. This unity of the country with the administration is the prerequisite for overcoming the challenges we will face. Let’s hope they will be less challenging than the previous five years, characterized by floods and pandemics. Our country, also in view of the birth of the single hospital in the Taggia plain, has all the conditions to aspire to a necessary repopulation. We cannot wait for the construction of the hospital, we must already make it attractive to come and stay in Badalucco, showing a beautiful, clean and welcoming town, increasingly on par with the most beautiful villages in Italy, which it offers us together with the orange flags and oil producing countries global visibility. We must improve the road system and parking, the order and cleanliness of the town’s streets, which must also be more flowery. Here we have five years ahead of us for a leap in quality that will see the administration and our fellow citizens as protagonists.”
In closing of the session the emotion peeked out. Matteo Orengo wanted to spare a thought for his beloved distant daughter who unfortunately was unable to attend, for her father and for her partner Giulia. A tear escaped, immediately dried by thunderous applause. Of encouragement. For the new beginning.
