An urgent meeting, “in order to identify a transparent path, based on the restart plan, which can seriously identify a time schedule, at least monthly, of maintenance activities in order to provide work continuity, was requested by the Fiom RSU (Vito Zella and Giovanni Lippolis) and the Fiom RSU coordinator (Ignazio De Giorgio) to the extraordinary commissioners of Acciaierie d’Italia in as, to the plant director Eng. Valli, to the director of the Central Maintenance Area Eng. Uricchio and to the head of Industrial Relations, Avv. Lonoce.
The request arose from the fact, explain the Fiom RSU, that the director of the central maintenance area “assigns to each department the numbers of workers to be placed on redundancy without a clear maintenance planning and effectively postponing some activities necessary for the restart of the blast furnace. In fact, although each department organizes itself to carry out specific maintenance activities, the Area Director unilaterally decides to suspend part of the same activities on the basis of the redundancy fund numbers. And the increase in the numbers foreseen by the procedure initiated by the commissioner’s management (4,400 in the former Ilva plant in Taranto, ndc) – underline the women workers – raises further concern regarding the improper use of the Cigs. The only certainty to date – they conclude – is the constant increase in the numbers of the redundancy fund which is determined every weekend with the usual method by which activities are canceled to make room for a greater number of workers on CIGs”.
The Fiom RSU also asked for a specific focus “on the restart of the blast furnace, the latter being necessary to guarantee the increase in production”.
