In 2019 the local elections in Carpi were held on May 26th. On the same day the polls opened throughout Italy for the European elections. Also in 2024 the local elections – as regards the first round – will be held together with the European ones: the date chosen is that of Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June. As for the timetables, voting operations will take place today, Saturday 8th, from 3pm to 11pm and tomorrow, Sunday 9th, from 7am to 11pm. Priority will be given to the European elections for the counting. The possible turn of ballot for the administrative elections in Carpi it will be held on Sunday 23 June from 7am to 11pm and on Monday 24 June from 7am to 3pm. electoral law of local elections in Italy it is majority-based when it comes to the election of the mayor, while the distribution of councilors takes place in a proportional manner. Being Carpi a municipality with more than 15,000 inhabitants, if no candidate in the first round obtains an absolute majority then a ballot between the two most voted. If there is a perfect head-to-head tie, the oldest candidate will be elected mayor. To guarantee the formation of a solid majority and consequently substantial governability, the winning mayoral candidate will be added to the lists linked to the candidate awarded 60% of the seats; the remaining seats on the Council will then be assigned to the other lists in a proportional manner through the “D’Hondt method”. When the seats are divided, the total number of seats will be elected 24 councilors excluding the mayor, all lists and groups of lists of candidates who have passed the threshold will be admitted barrier threshold 3 percent of valid votes. As regards the voting methods, in Carpi, as a municipality with over 15 thousand inhabitants, voting is permitted split vote(that is, separating the vote for the candidate from that for one of the lists that support him) with the voter who will be able to express up to two preferences while maintaining the gender equality (a man and a woman). To vote 1) you can only draw a mark on the symbol of a list, thus assigning your preference to the marked list and to the mayoral candidate supported by the latter; 2) you can draw a mark on the symbol of a list, simultaneously drawing a mark on the name of a mayoral candidate not connected to the voted list (this is the split vote); 3) you can only mark the name of the mayoral candidate, thus voting only for the mayoral candidate and not for the list or lists connected to the latter. The split vote however, it is not permitted for the European elections that will happen with proportional system. Once the symbol has been chosen, the voter can mark it next to it up to three preferences: if more than one is expressed, the preferences must take into account different sexes (if two, a man and a woman, if three, two women and a man, or vice versa), otherwise those subsequent to the first will be cancelled. Don’t forget: identity document, even expired, and electoral certificate.
