An 8-year-old boy died after being crushed by a metal appliance while playing in his backyard. The tragedy occurred in Montemaranoin the province of Avellino. The sheet metal cutting table – very heavy – suddenly fell for reasons yet to be ascertained. The child – who was called Domenico Galluccio – was in the house where he lives with his family, in a countryside area, and according to local newspapers he was preparing to go to the village festival. Despite the intervention of the 118 emergency services, there was nothing that could be done for the child.

The mayor of the city Beniamino Palmieri has decided to hold one day of mourning for tomorrow, June 28: “We are experiencing a tragedy which leaves us speechless and throws us into a state of deep pain and sincere emotion. We all have the duty to mourn this child who passed away so soon, we all have the duty to rally around his family, because this mourning belongs to all of Montemarano. Acting as an interpreter of the sentiment of the entire community, I have decided to proclaim city mourning for tomorrow.” For this reason, a concert in Povia was canceled and the celebrations in honor of Saints John and Paul were suspended. “Your smile and your sweetness brightened our school days – is the memory of the principal of the village school Emilia of Blasi – and they made you be loved by all your companions! Now, beautiful angel, you will cheer up Heaven and you will remain forever in the hearts of your teachers, your friends and all those who knew you in your short and bright life! The entire institute and its head teacher lose a piece of their heart today.”
