The public toilets in Piazza Cavalli reopen “Renovated and accessible to all”

The new public toilets in Piazza Cavalli, more precisely in Piazzetta Pescheria, officially open in Piacenza. “Totally renovated and renovated, as expected, according to the principles of accessibility – underlines the municipal administration -, an address in line with the path that will lead to the adoption of the Peba (Plan for the elimination of architectural barriers) of the Municipality of Piacenza within the current year”. The bathrooms in Piazzetta Pescheria will be open from 6 in the morning until 8 in the evening every day of the week, seven days a week. And as regards the closing time, it will be possible to change it according to specific needs such as events in the square that make it necessary to use the toilets for longer.

The renovation works, entrusted to the company Edil Losa Srl of Gragnano Trebbiense, involved every aspect of the rooms and related systems, which were old and therefore required a total renovation. The spaces (which have new finishes, windows, floors, lighting, bathroom fixtures, sinks) have been adapted in a more functional way: now citizens will have at their disposal a bathroom for men, one for women (each with three toilets) and above all an independent bathroom reserved for people with disabilities has been created. The entrance to the services has been moved from the original position (i.e. in the gallery of Palazzo Mercanti) to Piazzetta Pescheria and has been equipped with a specially built platform with a limited slope which eliminates architectural barriers allowing easy access, via an automatic door, even to people in wheelchairs, with walking problems or with strollers and prams. The “old” entrance is now used as a service passage for the cleaning staff, who will be busy three times a day, every day of the week.

“Work is now underway. they explain from Palazzo Mercanti – in the direction of refining management, with a view to counteracting any improper use and better preserving the spaces. Beyond ordinary cleaning, an increased presence of staff to monitor the premises cannot be ruled out, especially at times of greatest use or events. The systems for the installation of automatic turnstiles have also been prepared, and more suitable estimates and solutions are being evaluated. All this while also trying to think with a view to a homogeneous management of the various public toilets in the city, in order to progressively improve their conditions”.
