Round of 16 of the 2024 European Championships, the complete draw and match dates

Time to verdicts to Euro 2024 which is moving towards the beginning of direct elimination phase. All the eighths finals will be defined by Wednesday 26 June; the first official pairing to have filled both spaces on the board was Switzerland-Italy. Then the Denmarkwho as second in group C will find the Germany. England, Spain, France, Portugal and Austria however, they still have to know their respective opponents.

Who qualifies for the round of 16

The top two national teams in each group and the four best third-placed teams in the six groups qualify for the round of 16. To get back into the group of these last qualified teams, the following teams are taken into consideration: 7 criteria in this order of relevance:

• number of points
• goal difference
• number of goals scored
• number of victories
• total disciplinary score based only on warnings and expulsions received in all group matches (direct expulsion = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for double yellow card = 3 points)
• position in the general ranking of the European qualifiers. If Germany (host nation) is involved, a draw will take place.
• Once the four best third-placed teams have been determined, article 21.05 of the regulations explains how they are assigned to their respective matches. Assignment to each round of 16 match can only be made when all four teams are known.
