Terracina, 23 June 2024 – The first stage of the five stages of the ICS Beach Volley Tour Lazio 2024 was archived in Terracina, an event organized by Fipav Lazio in collaboration with the Institute for Sports Credit and the patronage of the Lazio Region. The event, which celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year, will end on the weekend of 20 and 21 July in Montalto di Castro where the finals and the awarding of titles are scheduled.

Under the temple of Jupiter Anxur, in two intense days of competition, 24 male and 17 female teams competed, giving rise to hard-fought matches of a high technical level.

In the women’s event, the semi-finals saw Sanguigni/Balducci clearly defeat Toti/Pratesi and Jenifer Luca/Allegretti overcome Cicola/Schawan after a tough battle.

In the final for the podium Cicola/Schawan beat Toti/Pratesi with a clear 2-0.

The challenge that led the home athlete Camilla Sanguigni (a native of Terracino who plays in Romagna) to climb to the top step of the podium was of a very high level and she, paired with Sofia Balducci from Ravenna, had to fight three sets to overcome Jessica Jenifer Luca/Jessica Allegretti, in a match always on the edge of uncertainty that drew applause from the audience.

Camilla Sanguigni beamed, who also won the title of MVP of the match, at the end of the match:

“It’s nice to win here, in front of family and friends who cheered me on. It was a good tournament that helped cement my chemistry with Sofia. I love beach volleyball and in the summer I dedicate myself to it with passion without giving up indoor sports. In the next championship I will play in A2 in Macerata and I am ready to give the best of myself there too “

“I am satisfied with this experience – echoes Sofia Balducci – our goal is to find an ever better rhythm of play, without ups and downs. We have always been friends and we intend to do well together on the pitch too.”

In the men’s tournament, Edgardo Ceccoli from Pescara climbed to the top step of the podium and paired with the Brazilian Nelio Santos, they extinguished the resistance of the Perugian athletes Alessandro Marta and Francesco Margaritelli who, especially in the second set, fought without however managing to stem the power of the two opponents.

Ceccoli, MVP of the men’s tournament, praises the event: “A really well organized tournament, in a beautiful location, with strong couples. A good test for the next commitments in the Italian championship. We met with Nelio at the Open beach in Milan, we are a tandem that complements each other. We hope to continue to improve.”

Nelio Santos is happy with first place. “I’ve only been in Italy for a year, up until now I’ve only played beach but I would like to try my hand at indoor too. This victory increases our self-esteem for future commitments. This tournament is beautiful, I think we will also return in the next stages.”

In the semi-final Ceccoli/Santos had to work hard to beat Colaberardino/Borraccino in the third set, while Marta/Margaritelli’s success over Tailli/Rossi in two sets was clearer. Tailli/Rossi classified in third place due to the withdrawal of Colaberardino/Borraccino.

Alongside Fipav in the organization of the Terracina stage, the contribution of Jaap Beach Volley Terracina of president Anna Maria Perroni and Pino Percoco was invaluable, who allowed everything to take place in the best possible way.

Alessandro Bolis, Deputy Commercial Director and Head of Marketing and Communication at ICS, wanted to underline at the end of the competitions: “ICS has believed in this project for seven years and is alongside Fipav Lazio because beach volleyball is an important reality that has increasingly followers. As a bank we want to be increasingly present, hoping that the conditions will be created to create systems that can allow you to play at the beach even during periods in which it is not possible to go to the beaches. Here in Terracina there is a lot of enthusiasm, the level is high, and allow me to say that the thing that excites me most is seeing so many children who, after seeing the adults play, pick up the ball with the desire to emulate them. This enthusiasm of theirs must be nourished and cultivated.”

President Andrea Burlandi was satisfied and was present on Saturday before leaving for Calabria where he accompanied the Lazio representatives to the Regions Trophy. “It is a historic achievement to celebrate the 20th year of this event which is growing as beach volleyball grows throughout our region. First of all, I must thank ICS which has believed in our project and supported us for seven years now, and the Lazio Region which has wanted to be at our side again this season. It’s nice to see so much participation for this first stage in a welcoming location with a strong sporting vocation like Terracina. The ICS Beach Tour Lazio has started in the best possible way and I believe that this year it will be a success in all five events that we have planned.”

Present at the event were Ilaria Marangoni and Antonio Mennillo, and the municipal councilors of Terracina, Massimo Moni, councilor of Fipav Lazio and Claudio Romano, president of the CT Fipav of Latina, who at the end awarded, together with Alessandro Bolis, the winning couples.
